During the month long campaign, Wal-Mart stores held special events during their annual fundraising campaign, including donations at the registers, hosting in-store charity drives and teaming up with suppliers to raise money for the Canadian Red Cross.
The Canadian Red Cross helps people affected by emergencies and disasters, ranging from family house fires to regional flooding and natural disasters. The Red Cross works to provide emergency needs like food, shelter, emotional support and family reunification. All Red Cross assistance is provided free of charge by over 30,000 dedicated volunteers across the country and with the help of generous financial donors such as Wal-Mart Canada.
“We are very thankful to the Canadian public for their generosity and to Wal-mart for making this campaign a success,’ says Tim Hoswitschka, Director of National Corporate Relations at the Canadian Red Cross. “Funds raised will help us help the community when a disaster strikes.”
The Canadian Red Cross is a member of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, which includes the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the International Committee of the Red Cross and 185 national Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. The Canadian Red Cross mission is to improve the lives of vulnerable people by mobilizing the power of humanity in Canada and around the world.
