Safety and Security of Humanitarian Workers
The Government of Canada signed the Third Additional Protocol to the Geneva Conventions establishing the red crystal as an additional distinctive emblem for the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, and is currently pursuing efforts to ratify the instrument. Canadian Red Cross will continue to use the red cross. The Protocol should allow the Movement to be more universal and effective in its response to crises worldwide. It will help enhance the protection for humanitarian workers who provide critical assistance to people affected by conflicts and natural disasters.
