How You Can Help?

Get Trained

During a disaster you may need to look after yourself and your family for at least 3 days.  SmartStart:  Personal Disaster Preparedness workshops help you prepare.

Consider taking First Aid training! Learn how to call 9-1-1 in your language to get help or learn what you can do to save a life!  SmartStart: Community Access to First Aid instruction is available in *14 languages or ESL.

*Currently in ESL, French, Cantonese, Mandarin, Farsi, Spanish, Hindi, Punjabi, Tamil, Korean, Vietnamese, Dutch, German, Arabic, and Amharic.

Volunteer as a Personal Disaster Preparedness Trainer in your Community

This program relies on the time and talents of dedicated volunteers who love teaching, believe in “Being Prepared”, and speak another language fluently or have ESL teaching experience. You can help by joining the team and committing to teach as a volunteer – all training is provided and you will be supported as you gain experience.

Organize a Personal Disaster Preparedness class

If you belong to a community group, teach an ESL class, provide care or have a group of interested friends then we can arrange a class for you! This 2 – 21/2 hour workshop is designed to meet your needs.  The instructors teach in one of 18 languages, and are trained to adapt the content to suit the group so what you learn will be of practical value in your life today.

Workshops are conducted at your meeting place and the volunteer instructors will try as much as possible to fit your schedule.

* Currently available in Afrikaans, Amharic,  Arabic, Cantonese, Dutch, ESL, Farsi, French, German, Hindi, Korean, Mandarin, Punjabi, Spanish, Swahili, Tagalog, Tamil, Taiwanese, and Vietnamese
