Multilingual Services

The B.C. Lower Mainland is a fast-changing region of increasing immigration and settlement from all over Canada and the world. Over 50% of the population speaks a language other than English at home and 13 different languages other than English and French are frequently spoken in the region according to the 2001 Census.

In order to reach this diverse population the Canadian Red Cross Lower Mainland Region continues to develop programming in first languages, recruit volunteers who speak more than one language, provide materials translated into commonly used languages and promote information to communities in their language media.

To help us further, the Red Cross has invited representatives from communities to advise on appropriate and inclusive program delivery on two Advisory Committees:

Canadian Red Cross programs in other languages include:

* SmartStart programs focus on providing emergency preparedness information and training in languages other than English. Our programs include both First Aid and Personal Disaster Preparedness, and help make families safer and better prepared for any unforeseen emergency.  SmartStart programs are recommended together, but can be taken separately.
