Emergency Management Act - (Bill C-12)
The Canadian Red Cross Society (CRCS) today participated in an evidence session of the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security in support of the Emergency Management Act - (Bill C-12). The Bill aims to help Canadians in a disaster through the establishment of a national emergency management framework with the Department of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness as the lead department.
“In our view, Bill C-12 confirms the importance of emergency preparedness and planning at every level of government. We strongly support any action to ensure strong and well defined leadership and effective coordination amongst the key players involved in emergency management” said Pierre Duplessis, Secretary General of the Canadian Red Cross.
As auxiliary to the public authorities, the Canadian Red Cross assists governments at all levels, municipal, provincial/territorial and federal, in emergency preparedness, mitigation, response and recovery across the country.
The Canadian Red Cross’ strategic focus, operational capabilities and resources make the Society one of the principal entities in the voluntary sector in emergency management in Canada and around the world.
