Recovery Programs

The Canadian Red Cross works closely with the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and Red Cross National Societies of tsunami-affected countries to develop plans, and coordinates with other aid organizations and governments to help prevent duplication and meet urgent needs of vulnerable groups.

More than one million kilograms of relief items have been sent to tsunami-affected areas. The Canadian Red Cross is also delivering clean water, health care, counseling, shelters, and household and hygiene items. Dozens of expert Canadian relief workers have been sent to the region to work in areas, such as: health, nursing, and disaster management.

While the Canadian Red Cross is still providing emergency relief, it is also supporting long-term recovery programs in the region, which are expected to last for up to 10 years.
