Humanitarian aid sent to Grenada

Relief materials
Canadian Red Cross and Canadian International Development Agency send relief materials to Grenada on Zoom Airlines flight.
On the morning of September 15, the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and the Canadian Red Cross sent humanitarian aid on a Zoom Airlines flight bound for hurricane devastated Grenada.  The shipment, sent from Toronto’s Pearson International airport, weighed approximately 10 metric tons and is estimated to be valued at $500,000.

The goods include a prefabricated warehouse, four generators, water bladders, water purification sachets, water jugs, water tpump, tools and heavy plastic sheeting. The items will be managed and distributed by the International Red Cross logistics team in Grenada and the Grenada Red Cross.  A Canadian Red Cross emergencies officer was also on the flight to oversee the transportation of the Canadian goods to Grenada.

Hurricane Ivan has caused massive devastation throughout the Caribbean. The hurricane packed powerful winds in excess of 220 kilometres per hour and has caused loss of life, tore homes from their foundations and wiped out the tourism industry and the economies in the region. Help is urgently needed.  Funds donated to the Red Cross go towards helping provide humanitarian assistance to the tens of thousand of people affected by Hurricane Ivan.
