RespectED: Violence and Abuse Prevention

Everyone deserves to grow up safe and respected, but sadly, every day thousands of Canadian children are harmed by the people they know and trust.

Here are the facts:

  • 50% of all child pornography is made by family members
  • 93% of alleged perpetrators are known to child abuse victims
  • 75% of Aboriginal girls in Canada have been sexually abused
  • 2 – 6 students in every Canadian classroom have witnessed woman abuse this past year
  • Every 7 minutes an act of bullying takes place in Toronto schools
  • 54% of people surveyed by Children’s Aid would not report suspected child abuse.

For 28 years the Canadian Red Cross RespectED Violence and Abuse Prevention Program has offered child abuse, bullying and relationship violence prevention education to children, youth and adults in small towns and downtown urban centres; in First Nation and newcomer communities; in the classroom and the board room.
