Team Leader Volunteer

Program:  HELP – Health Equipment Loan Program
Position:  Team Leader Volunteer

Description

The Canadian Red Cross – HELP loans medical equipment (with medical referral) to people in need. The Team Leader has a key roll as a support person to the volunteers in the depot and as a communication link to HELP staff. The team leader ensures all aspects of the operation of the depot are performed and carried out with regards to Red Cross – HELP policies and procedures. It is not intended for the team leader to perform all of the duties required but to ensure volunteers are trained and comfortable with each aspect of the program and report to the team leader.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Operation - responsible for the overall operation of the Community HELP depot (hours of operation, lending and receiving equipment, adherence to policies and procedures, record keeping, equipment maintenance, customer service, etc.)
  • Volunteer Management - assist Regional Office in recruitment, training, supporting, scheduling, evaluating volunteers
  • Provide Support to Team Volunteers who are responsible for:-
    1. Administration - banking, accounting, recording keeping, statistics, reports, etc
    2. Inventory Control - tracking equipment (lending, receiving, write-offs, maintenance records,)
    3. Customer Service & Data Entry – working with clients, lending/receiving equipment, equipment maintenance, record keeping
  • Red Cross - be familiar with all programs and act as resource for the community

Duration:  Ongoing; minimum of a two year commitment

Time Commitment: Time required is determined by the scope of the depot business and the duties assign to other volunteers. Expect a time requirement of 3 - 4 hours per week.

Qualifications

  • able to provide assistance in a non-bias manner
  • leadership abilities and supervisory experience required
  • enjoy working with people from varied backgrounds and ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Emergency First Aid certification is recommended
  • good oral, written (legible) and listening skills
  • flexible work and home environment - ability to respond to a client and volunteer request 
  • problem solving, organizational skills and clerical skills
  • Computer skills an asset.

  • Successful completion of Criminal Record Check

  • HELP Orientation
  • Preventing Disease Transmission
  • Equipment Cleaning and Maintenance
  • Once yearly Team Leader Meeting 
  • Staff supported self-study and orientation
