“The Red Cross provides a much needed service to people in Calgary. I am very pleased that the Kinsmen Club has been able to support the Medical Equipment Loan Service,” says Terry Bell, Kinsmen Club member.
“Last year my brother was an unexpected client of the Red Cross," Bell continues. He hurt his foot and needed crutches and a wheelchair. The volunteers at the Red Cross Medical Equipment Loan centre made sure he was taken care of.”
Each year in southern Alberta, Red Cross provides the short-term loan of clean, safe medical equipment to thousands of people of all ages who are living in their homes and recovering from injury, illness or surgery. Last year, the Red Cross in southern Alberta loaned over 20,000 pieces of equipment to approximately 9,000 people.
The Red Cross Medical Equipment Loan Service is community-based, operated by caring and committed volunteers who clean and maintain the equipment, provide customer service and lead efforts to continually improve the program. In southern Alberta, MELS depots are located in Calgary, Lethbridge and Medicine Hat.
“The Kinsmen Club has always been a great supporter of the local community,” says Anette Jorgensen, Manager for the Medical Equipment Loan Service in southern Alberta. “This recent donation to the Red Cross will go a long way in ensuring that local residents have access to the medical equipment they need while recovering from illness, injury or surgery.”
