Front Desk Volunteers - Lindsay Branch

Reception volunteers are needed to answer phones, record First Aid registrations, assist with rental of healthcare equipment, process donations, fax, file and photocopy.

Chair, Community Development , Branch Council, Simcoe and Muskoka

Location: Canadian Red Cross, 14 Checkley St., Barrie, Ontario

Reporting to the Branch Council, volunteers will be responsible for developing strategies for raising the profile of Red Cross across the region; seeking new opportunities for collaboration; and developing new initiatives that align with the goals of the Red Cross.  Volunteers will also be responsible for working closely with other provincial initiatives including fund development initiatives.  Volunteers should be prepared to attend Branch Council meetings on a regular basis.  A time commitment of two years and a minimum of 10 -15 hours per month are required.

Chair, Youth Leadership, Simcoe and Muskoka

Location: Canadian Red Cross, 14 Checkly St, Barrie, Ontario

Reporting to the Branch Council, volunteers  will be responsible for providing leadership and development for youth programs and youth groups. This involves leading program initiatives such as program education, youth involvement in community, and all related events and activities.  Volunteers should be prepared to attend Branch Council and Youth Council meetings on a regular basis.  A time commitment of two years and a minimum of 10 -15 hours per month are required.

Administrative Support to the Executive and Governance Teams - Mississauga, Ontario Zone office

Volunteers are needed to assist with managing activities of the Office of the General Manager, Deputy General Manager and the President.  Previous experience in support of executive and governance teams and in planning and coordinating of meetings/conferences and briefing materials are essential.  Confidentiality is a requirement.   Volunteers should be available to work during and after hours as well as occasional weekends.

Injury Prevention - Mississauga, Ontario Zone office

Volunteers are need to assist in busy contact centre.  Duties include:  setting up files, filing, sorting rosters, data entry and other administrative tasks.

Meals on Wheels volunteer

Volunteers are needed to help deliver meals to clients in the Mississauga area.  Volunteers are not involved in the meal preparation and should be able to carry full meal bags and have their own vehicle.  Volunteers should be available during the week between the hours of 10:30a.m. - 1:30p.m.

Transportation for Medical appointments - Peel Area

Volunteers are required to provide transportation to and from medical and dental appointments within local communities, using their own vehicles.  Reimbursement and training is provided, as well as preserving Red Cross clients with their dignity, independence and safety.  Different communities have different needs where Transportation is concerned, and you should contact your local office if this is a service you could help the Red Cross provide.

Disaster Responders

Volunteers assist people affected by small, medium and large scale disasters. This temporary emergency assistance involves providing shelter, food , clothing, emotional support and family reunification services, as required, to people affected by disasters whose homes are uninhabitable. (training to be provided. Responsibilities include: available for preassigned shifts, work in a team environment to assist those in need; respond to emergency scene immediately, assess and provide for clients basic needs; perform duties in accordance to Disaster Assistance standards, procedures & guidelines; participate in post-response program evaluation; and able to commit 2 hours approx. every month to Disaster Response Committee meeting

Personal Disaster Assistance (PDA)

Volunteers provide basic and immediate needs, up to a 72 hour period, to those directly affected by a personal disaster in a way that impacts their ability to better cope with their loss. As a PDA volunteer, you may assist in operating an evacuation shelter, delivery of items and supplies as required, and assist in reuniting loved ones. (All training to be provided). Responsibilities include: available 24/7 for preassigned shifts, to respond as a team member once dispatched; respond to emergency scene immediately, assess and provide for clients basic needs; perform duties in accordance to PDA standards, operating procedures & guidelines; participate in post-response program evaluation; work in a team environment to assist those in need; with the ablity to commit 2 hours aprox. every month to Disaster Response Committee meeting.

International & Youth Program Volunteers

Youth should be at least 16 years of age and willing to give a one year commitment to the program.  Good communication skills and an interest in the international aspect of Red Cross' work are an asset.

Adult volunteers should be willing to make a long term commitment and to attend basic Red Cross training.  Volunteers should be available during regular business/school hours, attend training sessions to prepare for workshop facilitation and have good communication skills.

Administrative Support to First Aid Services

Responsibilities include: providing customer service and give First Aid information by telephone, e-mail and personal walk-ins, processing course registrations, assiting in pre-course set-ups, data entry tasks, assisting with marketing activities and general office duties.

Youth Community Facilitator for Humanitarian Issues Program

The objective of this program is to increase youth awareness on humanitarian/international issues, cultural diversity and multiculturalism by delivering the programs in elementary and high schools. Training will be provided to develop necessary skills for the related position.

Youth Council Advisor

The Youth Group Advisor assists in delivering its Youth Group Program to the community. The objective of this position is to increase young people of different ages on awareness in community involvement and volunteerism by delivering the program to high schools. Training will be provided to develop necessary skills for the related position.

Youth Council Members

Youth Group Members  assist in delivering its Youth Groups to the community. The objective of the Youth Group is to promote activities benefiting the community and their peers.  This program can go toward the Mandatory 40 hours of Community Service.

Receptionist

Provides relief or replacement for front desk. Training is provided to develop skill functions related to the position. Responsibilities include:  meet and greet all incoming to the branch; answer all incoming calls and re-direct them as necessary; process first-aid and other course registrations, including issuing receipts; process Home Health Equipment Services paperwork for rentals and returns; and other reception duties as required.

Fund Development Committee

This position is for a one-year term, which can be renewed following review. Meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month 7–9  p.m. approx. Also, attendance is expected at subsequent meetings as required.  Responsibilities include: fundraising, including but not limited to development and delivery of opportunities to improve the financial stability of the branch; increase branch awareness through fundraising and special events; develop a needs assessment; and advise staff and branch council of planned events, fundraising opportunities and results.

Charity Bingo

Volunteers assist in the operation of its weekly Charity Bingo. Candidates should enjoy working with the public and bingo.  Responsibilities include: able to commit to Wednesdays 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; bingo card sales; respond to request of general public, such as additional bingo card sales during games; and clean-up at the end of day and during games e.g. removal of used cards from tables.
