Red Cross offers a variety of services that help Canadians with limited mobility to continue living independently in their own homes, providing peace of mind for them and for their families.
Emergency Community Assistance Program
The Emergency Community Assistance Program provides parents with children under the age of 5 a place to go when pampers, food and other necessities are needed. This program is open to those who need it in Hamilton.
For Widows Group
Provides support to 240 bereaved women. The purpose of the group is to provide support and assistance and to broaden widows' friendships. This is accomplished through weekly meetings.
Friendly Visiting
Volunteers make regular visits to elderly residents who are living alone and need companionship. Assistance with grocery shopping and transportation to congregate dining are part of the Friendly Visiting program.
Home Healthcare Equipment Services
Each year in Ontario, Red Cross provides the short-term loan of clean, safe medical equipment to more than 46,000 people of all ages who are living in their homes and recovering from injury, illness or surgery. Red Cross medical equipment includes wheelchairs, walkers, canes, crutches, bathroom aids, etc.
Life Call
Life Call units are installed to provides seniors with electronic safety monitoring 24 hours a day.
Link to Health
Link to Health provides seniors with a gentle fitness program that helps improve physical mobility and well being leading to increased independence and reduced frailty. The focus is on a safe, welcoming class that includes not only physical exercise, but also promotes social interaction among peers.
Meals On Wheels
Red Cross volunteers deliver hot or frozen meals for a small fee to individuals who are elderly, disabled, or unable to cook for themselves.
Transportation Services
Transportation to medical appointments and other locations is provided to individuals who are unable to use public transit. Services are provided throughout the week for a nominal fee.
