The Canadian Red Cross provides interactive and informative resource material for teachers and groups wishing to learn more about the Red Cross. This material addresses the many issues, challenges and situations we face in Canada and worldwide. Click on the links below for these valuable resources.
Expect the Unexpected – A disaster preparedness program designed for schools (students aged 7-13, parents and teachers) that features lesson plans and activities on natural disasters.
Facing Fear – Developed to complement Expect the Unexpected, this program helps 5-16 year olds prepare for disasters and deal with the aftermath of terrorism and tragic events.
Natural Disasters: Exploring the UN-Natural Causes of Vulnerability – This workshop examines the social, economic, environmental and political vulnerabilities of communities facing a disaster. Designed for high school students as well as older participants.
Bug Out! Get the Facts on Germs – Learn the importance of illness prevention and control. For children, parents, teachers and caregivers.
Even Wars Have Limits – This website is filled with information, resources, activities and training material that explore the humanitarian consequences of war.
RespectED - Violence and Abuse Prevention – Red Cross prevention education aims to stop the hurt before it starts, with nationally recognized, award-winning programs about abuse, dating violence and harassment. There are several programs available on different topics for children as young as five years old as well as teenagers and adults.
c.a.r.e. – A personal safety program for children ages 5-9 that deals with sexual abuse prevention. Designed to be delivered in schools and other learning environments, c.a.r.e. focuses on body ownership and three safety rules: say no, remove yourself from danger and tell someone.
Breaking the Poverty-Disease Cycle – A 75-minute Canadian Red Cross workshop aimed at high school students as well as older participants, examines the UN Millennium Development Goals for 2015 and the obstacles and challenges we face in achieving them.
Development Ups & Downs – A development workshop consisting of three 50-minute lessons aimed at youth aged 11-14. Filled with fun, engaging activities, including a board game similar in format to Snakes & Ladders, participants compare the challenges people face in their communities with those in developing countries.
Children and War Toolkit 2011 – The children and war toolkit helps young people get engaged on the issue of children affected by conflict by exploring the realities faced by children in conflict zones and the basic knowledge needed to take action.
