Red Cross responds to Syrian refugee crisis

Tens of thousands of people are migrating across Europe the Middle East and North Africa, fleeing conflict, insecurity or persecution in their home countries, seeking refuge and peace in Europe. The Red Cross is providing migrants and refugees with food, clothing, basic medical care and hygiene kits.

Among the victims were Gaétan Lafontaine, one of the leaders who attended that very school, and his wife Joanie Turmel.

July 09, 2015 - The Canadian Red Cross has assisted more than 7,800 people affected by the Saskatchewan wildfires so far. Those affected are having their basic needs provided for at shelters in both Saskatchewan and Alberta with items such as cots, blankets, hygiene kits and nutritious meals.

A big-hearted family

In Kim Turmel’s family, 3:30 is when the girls get home from school. Snacks are quickly distributed, and the girls can play and relax until dinner. Today, Kim’s mother is not there, which is unusual because she is around almost every day to help Kim when her granddaughters get home.
