Improving community health in Pakistan

In 2010, more than 20 million people were affected by flash flooding that occurred in Pakistan. The natural disaster, which was the product of intense monsoon rains, left infrastructure submerged in water and the people of the region reeling from the consequences.

As one of the most active charity organizations in Canada, the Canadian Red Cross is a leader in world health and is committed to responding to emergencies and disasters that happen in the country and around the world.

In the years since large-scale flooding occurred in Pakistan, the Canadian Red Cross has supported a variety of programs that in turn have made it possible for people in the country to develop greater skills and broader access to important resources.

Enhancing community health in Pakistan

Since 2010, the Canadian Red Cross has worked to improve health in Pakistan by supporting the Pakistan Red Crescent Society in a three-year long Integrated Recovery Program.

Strengthening the state of community health in Pakistan is one of the tenets of the program, and by enhancing maternal, newborn and child health through the development of helpful programs, those in need are better assisted. Prenatal, antenatal and post-natal care are important aspects of the community health program, as is increasing training in community-based health and first aid.

The Canadian Red Cross has also given its support to a polio awareness campaign to reduce the spread of this condition.
