The Canadian Red Cross is pleased to announce that its annual gala fundraiser, the organization’s largest fundraising event in Canada, helped raise a record $1.6M. The money will go to the Canadian Red Cross emergency fund which enables the organization to prepare for the unexpected and to effectively support those who are impacted by disasters nationwide.

The twelfth edition of this prestigious event was held on Wednesday, June 1st, in the Salle des Pas Perdus at Montreal’s Windsor Station. Co-chairs for the evening were Mr. Jeffrey Orr, President and Chief Executive Officer, Power Financial Corporation, Ms. Suzanne Legge, Canadian Red Cross volunteer and Mr. Norman Steinberg, Global Vice Chair of Norton Rose Fulbright and Chair of Norton Rose Fulbright Canada. Ms. Michèle Dionne, a Canadian Red Cross volunteer and author of Missions, served as Honorary President.

This year’s theme: The Red Cross, Global Ambassador of Humanity, shone a spotlight on the exceptional work carried out by the Red Cross and its representatives, here in Canada and throughout the world. Two large-scale operations were highlighted, namely the arrival of Syrian refugees in Canada and support efforts for Fort McMurray evacuees. For the occasion, some 600 business community leaders and representatives got together for an evening.

Over the years, this gala humanitarian gathering hosted by the Red Cross has become an essential part of the Montreal scene. Since 2005, it has helped raise 12 million dollars in support of the Red Cross’ mission: Helping those in need when they need it the most. “The gala event is vitally important to us. It provides our teams with the means to train in order to be ready to respond on all fronts and makes it possible to access emergency supplies from coast to coast to coast, stated Pascale Mathieu, Quebec Vice President of the Canadian Red Cross. Preparedness is the key to success for our emergency responses.”
