Nepal
(Ottawa, April 29, 2015) - The Canadian Red Cross is pleased to announce that nine banks in Canada are accepting cash donations in support of Red Cross relief efforts in communities affected by the devastating earthquake in Nepal.

"The earthquake resulted in widespread damage and extensive humanitarian need," says Conrad Sauvé, secretary general and CEO of the Canadian Red Cross.  "Thanks to the help of these banks, Canadians now have another easy way to support Red Cross emergency relief on the ground."

The Red Cross response to this disaster was immediate.  Nepal Red Cross staff and volunteers continue to work around the clock, assisting in search and rescue efforts, administering first aid and distributing non-food relief items to individuals in need .  The Canadian Red Cross continues to respond, and, with support from the Government of Canada, is deploying a field hospital to the region to provide critical life-saving health services to hard-hit communities.  The hospital can address the health needs of a population of up to 50,000 people and will focus on mother, newborn and child health.

The following banks are also accepting financial donations in branches across Canada from April 29 to May 29:

BMO Financial Group
Canadian Western Bank
CIBC
HSBC Bank Canada
National Bank
RBC
Scotiabank
Tangerine Bank – online donations directly from account
