Montreal, November 9, 2012 – Four Red Cross volunteers, Caroline Belina, Vicky Chainey, Luc Goudreault and Denis Poulin, have left the province to take part in American Red Cross relief efforts to help those affected by Hurricane Sandy. "The Canadian Red Cross maintains close ties with the American Red Cross and we are proud to support the operations of our sister Society. We are ready to deploy additional emergency responders, as needed", said Michel Léveillé, General Manager of the Canadian Red Cross, Quebec Division.

The volunteers have embarked on a three-week long mandate. Caroline is in New York where she is lending a hand to American volunteers, namely by distributing clean-up kits, rakes, shovels, tarps, dust masks, work gloves, etc. in the field. Vicky was first assigned to logistics operations at the American Red Cross operational centre in Washington. She was later deployed to New Jersey in order to support coordination operations at the distribution centre. Denis ans Luc are in New York and working in an emergency shelter. They are assessing the needs of those affected by Hurricane Sandy.

Canadians are encouraged to support Red Cross relief efforts by making a financial donation to the Canadian Red Cross. Funds may be given to support hurricane response across the region through the Hurricanes 2012 fund, or can be donated directly to the United States recovery operations through the Hurricane Sandy – USA fund. Donations can be made online, at your local branch office or by calling 1-800-418-1111.
