(Ottawa) – The Canadian Red Cross is pleased to announce the appointment of eight new board members to the Board of Directors. New members Gordon Shead, Gilles C. Lachance, Dennis Chow, Colleen Schneider, Kathleen Mahoney, Alan Pearson, Peter Sloly and Michel Brunet will serve two-year terms. The election of the Board takes place every two years and was held at the Annual General Meeting in Halifax on June 24.

“I would like to welcome the newly appointed members of our Board of Governors, each of whom has been chosen based on their expertise, dedication and commitment to helping build a stronger Canadian Red Cross,” says Alan Dean, Chair of the Canadian Red Cross Board of Directors. “This year will present new opportunities and challenges for the organization as we continue our work to meet the needs of vulnerable communities in Canada and around the world.”

The Canadian Red Cross Society Board of Directors consists of volunteers elected from the four Zone councils representing all regions of Canada. During their tenure, members oversee the governance of the Society by reviewing by-laws and procedures, overseeing finances, and evaluating the performance of the Secretary General.

The Canadian Red Cross is a member of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, which includes the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the International Committee of the Red Cross and 187 National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. Our mission is to improve the lives of vulnerable people by mobilizing the power of humanity in Canada and around the world.
