(WINNIPEG, Sept. 10, 2014) – At today’s Canadian Red Cross Power of Humanity luncheon, presented by Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries, the Canadian Red Cross recognized two Manitobans for their selfless dedication to helping others.
“Susan Lewis and Muuxi Adam are two incredibly deserving people who have done so much to help many people. While neither of them do not seek attention for their humanitarian efforts, the Canadian Red Cross felt they should both be recognized for their demonstrations of caring and humanity,” said Shawn Feely, provincial director, Manitoba, for the Red Cross.
“Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries is proud to support the Canadian Red Cross in recognizing both Susan Lewis and Muuxi Adam for the 2014 Power of Humanity Awards.” said Larry Wandowich, Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries chief community relations & marketing officer. “We are honoured to present Ms. Lewis with the Humanitarian of the Year Award, for all of the invaluable contributions she has given to our communities. Congratulations to both of this year’s award recipients.”

Susan Lewis, longtime president and CEO of United Way of Winnipeg, received the Red Cross Humanitarian of the Year honour for her decades of work to helping people through her work with the United Way and other organizations, including the Winnipeg Poverty Reduction Council, which she helped create.
Muuxi Adam, co-founder of Humankind International was recognized for his work to help young people in Winnipeg and in Africa, the continent on which he was born. Adam and Humankind successfully worked to build a school in a refugee camp in Kenya. He has also worked extensively with new Canadians in Winnipeg.
The awards presentation was part of the annual luncheon held today at the Victoria Inn in Winnipeg.
