Statement from Canadian Red Cross on the Middle East Humanitarian Crisis

March 08, 2024 - The Canadian Red Cross remains deeply concerned about the humanitarian crisis that continues to unfold in the Middle East. Since the onset of the escalation of conflict in October, people living in the region have experienced persistent challenges and deteriorating living conditions.

Canadian Red Cross deplores the deaths of Syrian Arab Red Crescent aid workers, now confirmed at 31

Last week, the Syrian Arab Red Crescent confirmed nine more deaths among their aid workers, bringing the number of Red Crescent workers in Syria who have died while delivering humanitarian services to 31. The confirmation came after the National Society re-established contact with two of its sub-branches, which were cut off due to on-going clashes in the area. This includes the loss of a worker who was transporting an injured person in a clearly marked Red Crescent ambulance.

Canadian Red Cross Secretary General and CEO condemns attack on ICRC Afghanistan office in Jalalabad

Flags on Canadian Red Cross buildings across the country are being lowered for three days, as an expression of our support.

Canadian Red Cross Secretary General and CEO condemns attack on ICRC Afghanistan office in Jalalabad

Today, Conrad Sauvé, Secretary General and CEO of the Canadian Red Cross, issued the following statement:

"Yesterday, we learned that an attack had been perpetrated on the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) office in the eastern Afghan city of Jalalabad. Sadly, Afghan staff member Abdul Bashir Khan, the father of eight children, was killed in the attack."

Yemen: ICRC staff member killed in Abyan

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is deeply shocked and dismayed by the death of one of its staff members, Hussein Saleh, who was killed yesterday morning while on duty in the north of Abyan governorate, Yemen.
