The Canadian Red Cross is pleased to announce that 10 banks in Canada will be accepting cash donations from the public in support of Red Cross efforts to assist individuals affected by the current refugee and migrant crisis.

“The crisis has taken a tremendous toll on families who have been forced to flee their homes and at present, there is no indication that the number of people risking their lives to make this journey will decrease,” says Conrad Sauvé, secretary general and CEO of the Canadian Red Cross.  “Thanks to participating banks, Canadians will have another method to donate to support Red Cross activities in response to this acute emergency.”

It is estimated that more than 350,000 refugees and migrants have entered Europe so far this year.
Since June, the Red Cross has been providing first aid, medical care, psychological support, food, temporary shelter and other urgently needed items. Although Red Cross teams have been on the ground providing emergency assistance, the situation is intensifying and more aid is desperately needed.

Canadians wishing to make a financial donation can donate to the Refugee Crisis fund by calling 1-800-418-1111 or by giving online.  Canadians can also visit their local Red Cross office or one of the participating banks in Canada listed below.  Cheques should be made payable to the Canadian Red Cross and earmarked Refugee Crisis.

The following banks are also accepting financial donations from Thursday, September 10 to Saturday, October 10, 2015:

BMO Financial Group
Canadian Western Bank
CIBC
HSBC Bank Canada
Laurentian Bank of Canada
National Bank
