As Typhoon Maysak continues on its path towards the Philippines, the Red Cross is supporting affected individuals and remains on alert.

The Micronesia Red Cross is liaising closely with its active chapters in Chuuk and Yap, which were heavily impacted by the typhoon. In Chuuk State, the government has reported five deaths, extensive damage to private and public properties including schools, health facilities, public utilities, private residences, and the sinking of several ships.

The Philippine Red Cross has placed its disaster response teams on standby for rapid deployment and preparedness stocks ready for dispatch to areas under threat.

With the support of the Canadian Red Cross, the Philippine Red Cross has a field hospital in the country and a team of healthcare workers and emergency responders have been trained and are ready to help if needed.

Canadians can help the Red Cross respond to disasters around the world. You can make a financial donation to our International Disaster Relief Fund online, by calling 1-800-418-1111 or by contacting their local Canadian Red Cross office.
