(Regina, March 18, 2014) What do parents need to know to protect their kids from bullying?

That’s the question Canada’s leading authority on bullying will be answering at the University of Regina on March 26 from 7 to 9 p.m. in a presentation open to the public.

The Canadian Red Cross is bringing Dr. Wendy Craig to Regina as part of its lead-up to Red Cross Day of Pink on April 9, when more than 20,000 people across the province will be speaking out against bullying. Schools, businesses and individuals can still register and buy pink gear at redcross.ca/PinkSK.

The presentation will be held at the Research and Innovation Centre Lecture Theatre (RIC 119), which was generously provided to the Red Cross for no cost by the University of Regina. The cost is $10 at the door. Free parking for the event is available in Lot 9.

“This is a rare opportunity to hear from someone who has dedicated an enormous amount of personal and professional time in finding a way to prevent bullying,” said Valerie Pearson, Red Cross manager of Violence, Bullying and Abuse Prevention in Saskatchewan. “If you’re interested in preventing bullying, this is one speaker you don’t want to miss.”

Dr. Craig is a professor at Queen’s University, author of Bullying Prevention, What Parents Need to Know, and co-founder of Prevnet.org, an umbrella network of 69 leading Canadian research scientists and 55 national youth-serving organizations. For the last 25 years, Dr. Craig and Prevnet’s other co-founder, Dr. Debra Pepler, have dedicated their lives to researching, engaging, building and co-creating initiatives and programs that aim to bring an end to bullying.

The Red Cross will also be taking Dr. Craig to speak to teachers, educators and adults who are affiliated with its bullying prevention education program, as well as other Red Cross partners.

The Canadian Red Cross is Canada’s leader in bullying prevention education. Its RespectED: Violence & Abuse Prevention team provides award-winning violence, bullying, and abuse prevention programming that educates children, youth and adults on how to stop and get help for violence.
