Ottawa, August 20, 2013 – On August 19, at the Canadian Medical Association’s 146th General Council Meeting, the Honourable Rona Ambrose, Minister of Health, announced her commitment to addressing family violence as a public health issue, through a holistic approach.

The Canadian Red Cross sees family violence as a public health issue that is largely predictable and preventable, and we are committed to its resolution.

The Canadian Red Cross is a leader in violence and abuse education and prevention.
We have been engaged in family violence education for the past 28 years. Last year, our violence and abuse prevention programs reached more than 450,000 people in Canada and around the world.

We all have a role to play in preventing violence and ending abuse, and we look forward to working with Health Canada, our partners and other stakeholders in putting an end to family violence.
