Canadians recognized for their contribution to the Red Cross

(Ottawa) – The Canadian Red Cross today honours people whose work contributes to humanitarian efforts in Canada and around the world. The Red Cross presented 18 awards to recipients from across the country.

“We are extremely grateful to those who have made a generous contribution to our society and the efforts they put forth to help us improve the lives of others,” says Conrad Sauvé, secretary general and CEO of the Canadian Red Cross. “Each year as part of the Canadian Red Cross Annual General Meeting, awards are presented to recognize exemplary programs, fundraising initiatives and partners.”

In recognition for their years of service, The President’s Appreciation Awards were presented to Board Members Mario Dionne, Peter Zulauf, Diane Girard, Lynda Durand, Mary-Jane Dawson, and Amit Mehra, as they step down from their positions.

Gavin Giles received the Distinguished Service Award for his dedicated voluntary service to the Canadian Red Cross. His outstanding leadership and participation have greatly assisted the Canadian Red Cross in fulfilling its mission to improve the lives of vulnerable people.

The Prix d’excellence recognizes volunteers’ outstanding and innovative accomplishments in service delivery. Quebec Zone’s Montérégie flood operations received this award.

The Partners in Humanity Awards were presented to WestJet, Walmart, and The Atlantic Council for International Cooperation, whose partnerships helped the Canadian Red Cross to effectively mobilize Canadians for humanitarian work across the country and around the world.

Earlier this month, Desjardins received a Partners in Humanity Award during the Quebec Zone’s Annual General Meeting.

The Order of the Red Cross, Member Level, was awarded to Tim Cameron, Jeff Blackwood, Alan Dean, and Amit Mehra. Mario Dionne received the Order of Red Cross, Officer Level.

Recognizing outstanding youth engagement in humanitarian work, the Youth Engagement Award was presented to Atlantic Zone's Injury Prevention team for their work with High School First Response Teams.
