Canadian Red Cross welcomes Province of B.C. support to wildfire response

July 10, 2017

The Canadian Red Cross welcomes the Province of British Columbia’s announced $100 million fund to provide assistance to the thousands of British Columbians impacted by the fires burning in the province. With the fires still raging and communities on alert, help is needed now and in the weeks and months ahead.

Individuals and families who have been evacuated from their homes should register with the Canadian Red Cross. Registration ensures people are accounted for, can be contacted while away from home, and be reached with information and assistance.

Evacuees can register online at www.redcross.ca/gethelp or call 1-800-863-6582.

Through the funding from the Province of BC, the Canadian Red Cross will provide direct financial support to individuals and families evacuated as a result of the fires who have registered with the Red Cross. This assistance will support urgent needs including food, lodging, clothing and other essentials such as hygiene and medical supplies. Further details will be announced in the coming days. The Canadian Red Cross will continue to work closely with all levels of government, First Nations, service organizations, and impacted communities to ensure that people receive the support they need in the weeks ahead.
