(Ottawa) – The Canadian Red Cross is announcing the launch of our annual holiday fundraising campaign to support families impacted by disaster. Share your holiday spirit and donate relief items to families in need.

"The holiday season is already underway, and with the season comes the stuff," says Brian Holaday, director of the national direct marketing team. "This year, give something that means something by helping a family in need."

When you visit www.redcross.ca/donate, you can change lives by putting together your own care package for a Canadian family struck by disaster. Every gift, no matter how big or small, will help the Red Cross provide support, help and hope to someone when they need it most.

Canadians have the option to purchase this gift in their own name, or in the name of a loved one. You’ll even be able to send an e-card to tell recipients you have sent a meaningful gift in their name!

"Every day this December, a family in Canada will require food, clothing or shelter from the Canadian Red Cross because of personal disaster," says Denis Dion, director of disaster management with the Canadian Red Cross. "With the consistent increase in house fires over the holidays, sadly there’s never a lack of people in need for such lifesaving aid. "

There is an extensive list of relief items to choose from, including diapers, teddy bears, winter mittens, hot dinners for a week, and family accommodation for one night. With these items, you can help a family in need today for as little as $12!

"This year, the Canadian Red Cross assisted thousands of families who lost everything in the wake of a disaster," adds Dion. "Help us be there for the next call for help by giving the gift of hope today."

Visit www.redcross.ca/donate and create your own gift of hope, help and compassion.
