VICTORIA, BC – August 14, 2017 — Thanks to funding from the Province of British Columbia, the Canadian Red Cross has launched two programs to support communities impacted by the fires in B.C. The Community Partnerships Program will provide grants to help organizations delivering much needed aid in their communities. The Support to Small Business initiative will provide emergency financial assistance to eligible businesses that have been impacted by the fires.

Support to Small Business
Through funding from the Province of B.C., emergency financial assistance of $1,500 will be available to eligible businesses, not-for-profit organizations and First Nations members including:
  • Small businesses (including sole proprietors, partnerships, franchises)
  • Not-for-profit organizations
  • First Nations businesses and cultural livelihood on reserve

Community Partnerships Program
Through funding from the Province of B.C., a $5 million initial allocation has been made to support community-driven efforts for recovery and resiliency. Local groups and community organizations can receive support through an application process. Please note that we are prioritizing applications that support Emergency Relief at this time.

The Canadian Red Cross may provide support within five areas of programming:
  • Emergency relief to support immediate needs
  • Community strengthening to support community connectedness
  • Safety & wellbeing to support individual and community psychosocial services
  • Indigenous programming to support impacted indigenous communities
  • Disaster Risk Reduction to support mitigation and preparedness for future disasters

Additional information and eligibility criteria for the Community Partnerships Program and Support to Small Business can be found at www.redcross.ca

“Local organizations and small businesses are the backbone of a community and must be supported following a disaster. The Community Partnerships Program and Support to Small Business initiative will not only provide assistance for these groups, but will ultimately support the individuals and families impacted by the fires who rely on these organizations and businesses in their community.”
