Video Specialist

The Canadian Red Cross Society, a non-profit, humanitarian organization dedicated to helping Canadians, as well as the most vulnerable throughout the world, is currently seeking and Video Specialist, Communications and Partnerships. This is a 12-month contract position, with potential for renewal.
 
The right person to join our dynamic digital communications team will support in developing dynamic video content to support our large social media audience, particularly focusing on stories from the 2017 BC Wildfires and other disaster responses. You will help create strategies and generate content for specific audiences, including supporters of our domestic disaster management work, as well as the Francophone community in Quebec and across Canada. You will develop engaging content for all channels in support of organizational goals and objectives.
Responsibilities
  • Create video content for various social media channels (including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn)
  • Analyze campaign results and provide recommendations to inform decision-making for future campaigns, including social advertising and other promotional tools
  • Monitor and understand industry trends and opportunities.
  • Build relationships with cross-functional teams in order to understand their needs and goals, and ensure that the community perspective is being considered
  • Provide on-call assistance during weekends, emergencies and appeals
  • Other responsibilities may be required 
Specific tasks:
  • Participate in editorial planning for a shared weekly social media calendar
  • Develop and solicit content for all platforms, including the blog
  • Participate in Content Planning Group meetings
  • Liaise with communications staff responsible for social media at the provincial and regional level; provide guidance and support as needed
  • Participate in the development of video briefs, shot lists, and scripts to fully understand each team’s needs and specifications
  • Review shooting script and raw material to create a shot decision list based on scenes’ value and contribution to continuity
  • Work with existing footage or film additional interviews and b-roll as needed for each video project
  • Trim footage segments and put together the sequence of videos
  • Input music, dialogues, graphics and effects
  • Create rough and final cuts
  • Ensure logical sequencing and smooth running
  • Consult with stakeholders from production to post-production process
  • Continuously discover and implement new editing technologies and industry’s best practices to maximize efficiency.
  • Upload and categorize video materials in the Digital Asset Management (DAM) system
  • Upload videos to YouTube and Wistia as needed
  • Develop internal training and development tools for video, and provide training workshops to staff and volunteers
Qualifications and Experience
  • Requires a minimum of two to four years of experience in communications and client relations in the area(s) of Public Relations/Communications, Marketing/Advertising or Video Editing/Production.
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or College Diploma video production, marketing, or communications.
  • Passion for visual storytelling.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Passion for exceptional customer service.
  • Proven work experience as a video editor.
  • Solid experience with digital technology and editing software packages (e.g. Premiere, After Effects and Final Cut).
  • Demonstrable video editing ability with a strong portfolio.
  • Thorough knowledge of timing, motivation and continuity.
  • Familiarity with special effects, 3D and compositing.
  • Creative mind and storytelling skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of best practices for creating video for social media channels.
  • Has excellent verbal and written communication skills and an ability to work individually on a project or in a team environment.
  • Ability to communicate results to management and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience creating animation, GIFs and other social content an asset.
  • Bilingualism French/English is a requirement.
