Ready When the Time Comes

About the Program

Partner Testimonial Bombardier Inc.

Ready When the Time Comes is a Canadian Red Cross volunteer engagement program that creates partnerships among organizations in order to utilize the valuable human resources that Canadians have to offer to our communities. In partnership with the National Founding Sponsor, Acklands-Grainger, the Canadian Red Cross trains  and prepares employees of organizations  to mobilize as a community-based volunteer force when  large-scale disasters strike, including floods, fires, tornadoes, and extreme weather conditions.

This program provides a way for organizations to be involved in their communities by responding to community needs after a disaster. It also contributes an organization’s name and brand with the Canadian Red Cross- one of the world’s most trusted charitable organizations.

While creating an opportunity to volunteer and meet a high-priority need, this type of volunteer program is also an excellent way to motivate employees, build leadership and management skills, and to encourage teamwork.

Ready When the Time Comes was developed in 2001 as a partnership between the American Red Cross of Greater Chicago and W.W. Grainger, Inc. Today, over 13,000 reservists are trained and “ready when the time comes” to volunteer.

W.W. Grainger’s Canadian counterpart, Acklands-Grainger Inc, is the National Founding Sponsor of Ready When the Time Comes in Canada. Thanks to their support, the Canadian Red Cross is building its capacity to respond whenever and wherever disaster affects Canadians.
