Chair – Gavin Giles

Gavin Giles, Q.C. is the Chair of the Board of Directors.  

He lives in Halifax and is a senior litigation partner with Atlantic Canadian law firm, McInnes Cooper.  He holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from Saint Mary's University and a Bachelor of Laws from Dalhousie’s Schulich School of Law.  He was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2004.

Gavin was first elected to the Canadian Red Cross Board of Directors in 2010.  He was elected Vice-Chair in 2015.  His various committee assignments have included Governance and Talent Management which he has chaired; as well and Pensions and Nominating.
 
Prior to 2010, Gavin had been a senior Canadian Red Cross volunteer for over a decade. He served on both the Nova Scotia and the Atlantic Councils and Chaired the Atlantic Council for two terms.  He has also served as a member of the Canadian Red Cross (Atlantic) Capital Campaign Cabinet, several task forces on discrete issues such as health care and By-Law amendments and has chaired two Red Cross Humanitarian Award dinners.
 
Outside of the Canadian Red Cross, Gavin has been active in the governance of the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society as an elected three-term member of its Governing Council and as a very active fundraiser for the Multiple Sclerosis cause through the annual Nova Scotia MS Bike Tours.
