Bachir Halimi

Bachir Halimi resides in Montreal and is an innovative and visionary entrepreneur.  He has founded three Canadian companies that won recognition within their respective industries for their innovative technology. Bachir left his native Algeria in 1975 to study at the University of Montreal. 
 
In 1980, he launched his first company, Alis Technologies, and settled in Canada to develop it. Combining his computer skills and his mastery of Arabic, he developed an algorithm that enables computers to work in Arabic and other non-Latin languages.  He currently heads his third company, Speech Mobility, a world leader in multilingual computing and automatic translation systems.
 
Bachir is regularly invited to speak at international conferences about his vision of where technology is heading and the importance of standards in the industries where his companies operate. In 1999 he received the Canadian CTI Golden Award, presented to the person who has had the most influence on the development of the CTI (Computer Telephony Integration) industry in Canada.
 
Bachir joined the Board of Directors in 2015 and he chairs the Technology Advisory Committee to management. He has served on several boards with a high technology focus.  He is also founding Board Member and President of the Fondation Club Avenir, a non-profit organization established in November 2002 to encourage professional excellence and entrepreneurship for the successful integration of Canadians from North Africa.
