Meet the people who govern the Canadian Red Cross

Through their collective experience and vision, the Board of Directors contributes to the continuing success of the Canadian Red Cross. We invite you to consult their biographies to learn more about the professional and volunteer experience these individuals contribute to today’s Red Cross. All board members serve the Society as volunteers.

Chair – Gavin Giles

Gavin Giles, Q.C. is the Chair of the Board of Directors. He lives in Halifax and is a senior litigation partner with Atlantic Canadian law firm, McInnes Cooper.

Vice-Chair – Amit Mehra

Amit Mehra is the Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors. He is based in Calgary and works with Nexen Energy ULC where he is currently the Vice-President of Strategic Planning and Portfolio for Global Exploration.

Past Chair - Sara John Fowler

Sara John Fowler is the Past Chair of the Board of Directors. Sara served as Chair of the Board from 2014 – 2017. Sara resides in Sooke, British Columbia and is the Chief Executive Officer of the Mount St. Mary Hospital in Victoria, a position she has held since 2010.

Dennis Chow

Dennis Chow resides in Etobicoke. His career has been in the telecommunications and marketing field, working for Canada's largest telecom service providers.

Peter Collens

Peter resides in Mount Pearl, Newfoundland and has been a Chartered Accountant in public practice since 1978. Peter practiced with one of the largest international accountancy firms until 1998 when he resigned his partnership and opened his own office.

Kathleen Mahoney

Kathleen Mahoney resides in Calgary and has been a Professor of Law at the University of Calgary for 35 years specializing in Torts, Human Rights, Humanitarian Law, Women's Rights, and Judicial Development.

Mathieu Bouchard

Mathieu Bouchard resides in Montreal and is Vice-President, Corporate Affairs, Environment and Sustainability at Graymont, North America’s second-largest supplier of lime and lime-based products.

Bachir Halimi

Bachir Halimi resides in Montreal and is an innovative and visionary entrepreneur. He has founded three Canadian companies that won recognition within their respective industries for their innovative technology.

Harvey Wyers

Harvey Wyers resides in Sudbury, Ontario. Before retiring he worked at INCO (now VALE) for 30 years. There, he started as an underground miner and finished his career as a Statistician/Researcher in Safety and Health.

Tami Kjerulf

Tami Kjerulf resides in Winnipeg and is a Professional Engineer. She is currently employed with Manitoba Hydro as Manager of Corporate Planning and Development, responsible for the development and deployment of the Corporate Strategic Plan.

Michael Beswick

Michael Beswick resides in Toronto and is the retired Senior Vice-President, Pensions, of the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS).

Miranda Hubbs

Miranda Hubbs resides in Toronto and is currently a Corporate Director of Agrium Inc. She is a CFA charterholder and a National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) Governance Fellow.

Virginia West

Virginia West resides in Toronto and is a former Deputy Minister for the Province of Ontario, serving in five successive portfolios over a twelve-year period – Solicitor General, Public Safety and Security, Environment, Labour, and Natural Resources.

Brenda Eaton

Brenda Eaton resides in Victoria and is an experienced Corporate Director, having served for more than ten years on a number of private, public, not-for-profit and crown corporation Boards.

Aun Ali Khokhawala

Aun Ali Khokhawala resides in Richmond Hill and is the Vice President for Audit and Enterprise Risk at IAMGOLD Corporation. Aun Ali is a certified Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Karachi University.

Paul Martin

Paul Martin resides in Whitby and is the Chief of Police for the Region of Durham. As Chief of Police, Paul maintains the highest possible performance standards in the area of police service administration, as well as in related best practices with regard to the management of human, material and financial resources, crime prevention and other public safety challenges.
