Ready When the Time Comes

Relentless disaster has become Canada’s new normal.

Your investment is needed before the next one strikes.

Dave Lagoner, General Manager of Grainger-Canada

Ready When the Time Comes is a Canadian Red Cross volunteer engagement program that allows the Red Cross to utilize its partner corporations’ valuable human resources to support their community. In partnership with the National Founding Partner, Grainger-Canada, the Red Cross recruits, trains and prepares employees from Canada’s workforce to create a community-based volunteer force that can be mobilized during large-scale natural disasters such as floods, wildfires or tornadoes.

This program gives employees an opportunity to reach out to their fellow citizens and provide them with much-needed help during difficult times. It also associates their company’s name and brand with the Canadian Red Cross, one of the world’s most trusted charitable organizations. While creating an opportunity for participants to give back to their community, this program is also an excellent way to motivate employees, build leadership and management skills, and encourage teamwork.

Our Community-Based Volunteer Force
For more than a decade, Ready When the Time Comes volunteers have played an important role during large disaster responses lasting several weeks or months after major floods and wildfires.  Today, our volunteers are also counted on for everyday disasters, such as residential fires and power outages. RWTC volunteers can also support local campaigns and events hosted by the Red Cross in their communities.

Our Impact
Ready When the Time Comes volunteers have supported emergency responses ranging from rail disasters to humanitarian emergencies to floods and wildfires that have displaced entire communities.  Our volunteers make a real impact in their own communities, ensuring individuals and families receive the assistance and comfort they need to cope with disaster.
